Immerse yourself in an intensive five-day workshop with Ultima Vez, focusing on discovering and honing your unique stage presence rather than simply reproducing movement.
This workshop explores the physical language of Ultima Vez through floorwork, improvisation, and elements from the company's repertoire. Participants will work with dynamic movement, developing both physical precision and instinctive responsiveness. The improvisation focuses on shifting qualities, presence, and character work, with particular attention to emotional expressiveness and transformation. The goal is to combine technique with performative depth and to provide an intense, grounded, and expressive approach to movement.
Ultima Vez is the dance company of Belgian choreographer, dancer, filmmaker, and photographer Wim Vandekeybus, who founded it in the mid-1980s. His debut piece, "What the Body Does Not Remember" (1987), attracted international attention and received the prestigious Bessie Award for groundbreaking artistic work. His second piece, "Les porteuses de mauvaises nouvelles" (1989), also won this award. Over the past decades, Vandekeybus has provided important impetus to the development of contemporary dance with his distinctive, energetic style – both in Belgium and worldwide.
Paola Taddeo is a freelance dance artist based in Brussels. She has worked closely with Ultima Vez in the productions "Infamous Offspring," "Void," and "Traces." In doing so, she developed a deep connection with the company's physically intense and emotionally charged movement language.
Her dance background combines contemporary dance, floorwork, hip-hop, dance theater, and gymnastics. Paola completed the four-year professional training program at the Salzburg Experimental Academy of Dance (SEAD) and holds certificates in hip-hop from the MC Hip Hop School under the direction of Marisa Ragazzo and Omid Ighani.
In addition to her work with Ultima Vez, she has collaborated with choreographer Edouard Hue (Beaver Dam Dance Company), among others, and performed on international stages such as the Venice Biennale, the Salzburg Festival, and the Suzanne Dellal Centre. Her artistic practice is rooted in floorwork, improvisation, and the expressive power of movement.
