Open-Level
Immerse yourself in a dynamic open-level class inspired by the interdisciplinary work 7y98D of OURO Collective and RubberLegz. In this workshop, contemporary dance techniques combine with urban dance styles such as breaking, popping, wacking, house, and hip-hop to create a powerful movement dialogue.
The class focuses on body awareness, creative movement exploration, and physical expressiveness. Technical exercises, floorwork, improvisation, and choreographic elements create space for personal interpretation and communal energy. Building on the aesthetic vocabulary of OURO Collective, the focus is on the interplay of urban dance and contemporary form, connected by a conscious body center, clear lines, and fluid transitions.
The class is open to all levels – dancers with previous experience in urban or contemporary dance are welcome, as are curious movers from other disciplines. Together, we will explore movement as a response to societal issues such as climate change and transformation – physically, directly, and powerfully.
OURO was founded in 2014 by Cristina Bucci, Rina Pellerin, Maiko Miyauchi, Dean Placzek, and Mark Siller. With a common foundation of hip-hop, wacking, breaking, popping, house, and contemporary dance, each dancer in the group has trained with the original founders of their respective styles and brings specific expertise to the collective aesthetic.
