As part of a summer residency, Kalli Tarasidou and Vasiliki Papapostolou present a new collaborative piece created in collaboration with the renowned Derida Dance Center in Sofia. The two artists, who maintain close ties to the Freiburg region, explore the intersections of body, space, and memory in their work.
With a sensitive eye for movement and rhythm, they develop a physical language that embodies both fragility and resistance. Their new work is a multi-layered choreographic reflection on identity, belonging, and transformation—a vibrant process that emerged during their residency and now takes shape on stage for the first time.
About the Artist
Vasiliki Papapostolou, also known as Tarantism, is a 28-year-old international experimental dance artist originally from Greece.
Vasiliki's movement language is a hybrid of physical theater, urban street dance styles, and ballroom Latin. Her choreographies combine complex physicality with layered narratives, exploring how subtle and overt mechanisms of control shape the human experience. Her work invites audiences to consider the forces that influence our identities and interactions—from social norms to unconscious bias.
She holds a BA in Contemporary Dance from the Trinity Laban Conservatoire in London and a MA in Education with distinction from King's College London. During her master's studies, Vasiliki spent two years researching the sociological dimensions of dance education, examining how race, gender, and disability are intertwined within the institutional framework of dance training. This critical exploration of inclusion in the arts has had a lasting impact on her approach as a choreographer and educator.
Her solo piece, PANOPTICON, has received numerous awards, including two prizes at the 29MASDANZA Festival: the Audience Award and the 3rd Jury Prize. She received further accolades at contact.energy 24 – Tanztheater Erfurt (Audience Award) and the Philly Fringies Award (USA) for the double bill featuring her piece PANOPTICON and mignolo's Self Help.
Kalliopi Tarasidou, known as Kalli, is a dancer and choreographer based in Thessaloniki, Greece, specializing in the waving dance style. Her innovative style combines waving with elements of tutting, contemporary dance, acrobatics, and street dance styles such as popping and hip-hop, which has earned her international recognition.
Kalli began her professional career in 2013 with the renowned dance group Flying Steps and toured Europe for five years with the show Red Bull Flying Illusion. During this time, she collaborated with B-boy Junior on the impressive duet "Addiction," which garnered significant international attention. Since 2021, she has been part of the renowned Wang Ramirez company and is involved in the production "Youme," choreographed by Honji Wang.
In addition to her stage performances, Kalli has served as a judge at numerous international events and led workshops worldwide to promote the art of waving and inspire dancers to develop their creative expression. Today, her repertoire encompasses a wide range of movement styles. She sees herself as an artist with the philosophy of integrating waving as a central means of expression in all her work. Her goal is to inspire others to discover new perspectives in art and life and to think outside the box.
