Petrikor Danse ist eine der herausragendsten Tanzkompanien aus Nordamerika. Die aus Kanada stammende Kompanie begeisterte mit ihrer multidisziplinären Performance auf internationalen Festivals und die Fachpresse.
Der Guardian schrieb „»Eine der besten aktuellen Performances … der Einsatz von Licht, innerhalb und außerhalb des Kostüms, beschwört sowohl das pastellfarbene Schimmern der Nordlichter als auch die Flammen eines Waldbrands herauf.«
Die interdisziplinäre Tanzperformance verbindet Bewegung, Klang, eine aus 600 beweglichen Papierkegeln bestehende Skulptur namens Hermes sowie Licht. Alle Elemente werden in Echtzeit von der Performerin gesteuert und bilden zugleich ihre Hülle, ihren Lebensraum. Das Zusammenspiel von Licht und Skulptur erzeugt eindrucksvolle visuelle Effekte, die an Nordlichter erinnern. All das macht Habitat zu einem hypnotischen, poetischen Erlebnis mit einer geheimnisvoll-aquatischen Atmosphäre. Petrikor Danse beschließt mit der Performance „Habitat“ das Frei Art Festival 2025.
About the Artist
Bettina Szabo is a Uruguayan dancer and choreographer based in Montreal and Paris. She studied with Hebe Rosa in Montevideo (Uruguay), and Rami Be’er at Ga’aton (Israel), graduates the EDCM in 2013 and obtains her BFA in Choreography at Concordia University in 2017 (Montreal, Canada).
She dances for the Ballet de Camara de Montevideo (2004-2007), the Kibbutz Contemporary Dance Company (KCDC) (2010), the collective Interlope (2013-2014) for Jason Cutler (2019) and Paul Chambers (2021-2023) Yasmin Andersen (currently). She receives many awards and bursaries both as a dancer and choreographer; Best show, Best choreography and Best performance for La Movida Joven in Montevideo given by the Ministry of culture and sports of Uruguay, Dance Journey from MASA and the KCDC. She becomes fellow of La DSLR (2019) and the Royaumont Foundation(2021) in France, doing residencies in renowned centers in Canada and Europe. Her work is supported by the Canada, Quebec, and Montreal council of arts.
Her creations are interdisciplinary marked by a profound collaboration with music and visual arts. She creates Noir=+(2014) Sequelles (2016) Habitat (2020-2021) Zeruki (2022). Her work has been presented across Canada, Europe and Asia. Often, she collaborates with musicians such as Kalun Luong, Laurence Jobidon and the Écoute Ensemble. She creates art-videos alone and collaboratively such as The Case of Denise and Immortelles (2022), SKIN and Explosives (2020) and Compound Eyes (2017). Currently, Bettina is touring Habitat and working on her new creation Hélichryse with support of Alma Darama in Portugal, IRCAM in France and FLAK in Canada.
